PHP Developer Wanted

We are looking to recruit a PHP Developer on an ad-hoc basis with a view to a full time position, with the following skills:

• PHP/MySQL
• JavaScript and jQuery
• An interest in Usability & Accessibility
• Strong CSS and HTML skills, keen interest in emerging standards including CSS3 and HTML5 Desirable
• Experience with CMS systems (ModX experience preferred but not essential)
• Developing quality code, on time and to specification
• Developing compatible and exciting user interface functionality using JavaScript and HTML, in depth knowledge of jQuery and experience with other libraries

The ideal candidate will be based in the Bradford area and have a portfolio of work displaying the relevant required skills.

Market Research website goes live

We have completed a new website for a Bradford based market research organisation. Enventure provide market research services primarily working with public and not for profit sectors specialising in areas of Environmental, Community, Social and Health.
The website provides a full Content Management System with added extras including scrolling home page feature, Twitter feed, RSS Feed and search facility.

Letterpress Love

Nick has become part of a Letterpress printing project operating out of Bradford City Centre which will no doubt produce 'interesting' results and no amount of swearing over the coming months. The press itself requires no electricity to work and everything else is either salvaged or recycled keeping costs and waste down to a bare minimum. The project is in its infancy at present so we'll be posting inky-fingered updates when someone drops something heavy on their toes.

New work and new clients

We've just finished working on the first part of a year long energy efficiency campaign for BEAT (Bradford Environmental Action Trust) which aims to raise awareness of how much energy is used in our homes and how it can be reduced. More details soon.

We're also designing a logo for the Archives, Libraries and Museums Alliance UK (ALMA UK) and we've landed the Bradford & Keighley Youth Parliament (BKYP) campaign again for the third time running as well as picking up the redesign and development of the Workers Educational Authority (North West) website.

EYE'EM Award

June saw one of Nick's iPhone pictures (see below) shortlisted out of 1000's of entries in the 2010 EYE'EM Award for mobile phone photography. The photo featured in the exhibition in Berlin and will be published in the book later in the year. The standard was incredibly high so he did well to get that far!

Marketing Society Award Nomination

In June the 'Who Inspires You' campaign that Nick designed and art-directed in 2009 was nominated for an award in the not-for-profit category of The Marketing Society Northern Awards 2010, going head to head with larger agencies like Leeds based Brahm.

WBC Night Of Champions website

The WBC Night Of Champions is a huge boxing event to be held at Cardiff International Centre in July 2010. We had to work fast with a 5 day turnaround to design and develop the website from scratch. WBC required a robust content management system incorporating a gallery, newsletter system, social network integration and an eye catching design, we used Modx for the CMS and the WBC colours of gold and green.

Ian Hodgson art exhibition

The talented artist Ian Hodgson based in Brighton who's website we produced has been working on a few new pieces for an art exhibition to be held on Saturday 26th June at Cuadros gallery in Nottingham.
Just to wet your appetite here are a couple of Ian's latest creative offerings...

Fibonacci Poster

One of our team has recently produced this spiffing poster illustrating the concept behind the Fibonacci Sequence, a numerical sequence that underpins many of the things we use on a daily basis. Printed by The Print Academy, Bradford in a striking Pantone 032 red, on Howard Smith's 250gsm Greencoat 100 Offset stock (a 100% recycled board). The poster comes in an edition of 100 hand numbered copies.

Website for OSA-RM launches!

Dr David Dawson contacted us with a request to develop a website to coincide with an appearance on the UK television proogramme The One Show. We had a very quick turnaround in which to design a cohesive website displaying information on the company Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Risk Management. The result is a clean and simple brochure style site.

Phillip Shannon is an award winning Photographer from Leeds. Working from design files created by Giles Cooke Design we built a fully web standards compliant portfolio site which comprises a full Content Management System, javascript photograph gallery and blog pages with special attention given to Search Engine Optimisation. Nick hops on board

February saw our ranks swell with the addition of Nick, who has been freelancing with 9thwave for the last two years. Nick has amassed a considerable amount of time in the inky fingered world of print design, first as a printer (screen printing/offset litho) and then as a designer working across the public and private sectors creating everything from the simplest business card to art directing and developing campaign identities. In his spare time he can be found mucking about with pre-historic film cameras and creating typefaces out of bits of junk.

Nick's work has been published in Sidewalk and Document Skateboard Magazines, The Democracy Exhibition & Book, Typographic Posters and is often amazed to find his work on other peoples blogs. Give him a prod at nick@9thwave.co.uk

Often overlooked and put together in a hurry, we worked closely with the School Liaison team to ensure this prospectus ticked all the right boxes. New website for talented artist...

9thwave have completed the re-design for the up coming contemporary artist Ian Hodgson. Ian required a simple site to best showcase his works and one that he could update himself with ease.

We used ModX Content Management System for the back end administration system which gives Ian flexibility to alter any of the sites content as and when needed. An RSS feed was also incorporated so users can keep up to date with Ian's latest work.

New 9thwave site

Finally our new website is live. It's been a long time in design and development and there's still some items outstanding but we feel that it's fine for now to go live.

There's loads of new stuff in the portfolio section with lots of things still to be added but we'll get round to that in time. We've set up a blog section (a Wordpress integration) which, if we get time to keep up with it, will be geared towards professionals in the industry with tutorials, giveaways and relevant articles. It will also serve as a place for the 9thwave team to impart some of our own personality, so you can expect some musical, artistic and general interest ramblings to be features.

Current projects we're working on

We've got a few projects on at the moment including a website for Craven and Wharfdale RSPCA which should be going live in the next two weeks.
We have a couple of small static sites that we are finishing off too, these should also be going live over the next few weeks.

There's a project that we've started for Careersoft which includes creating a number of interface designs that are changeable by the user...a bit like the Gmail site.
